My Stand Alone Novels

This page is dedicated to my stand-alone novels. If they fit into another category, then they will be displayed on those pages too. On this page, you can find a diversity of different novels that I hope to try and further my writing skills as an author. Many of these books are written outside of my comfort zone. With these books, I am taking advantage of the fact that I am an independent author and not subjected to the draconian way in which many publishers treat their authors. I have the freedom to write whatever |I want whenever I want, and not simply pump out the same old same old tata all the time.

The first of these Carn Mo’r, is set in the Ladder Hills in the Highlands of Scotland.  Which is actually about an hour’s drive from my front door.  It is set in the 1950’s and is probably nearer your traditional romantic story.  In this story, I try to reflect on the older people I knew growing up in the Highlands.  Polite but firm, strong but gentle, with little use for the bad language that is prevalent nowadays.  So if you wish for a nicer read, I would recommend this one.  However be warned, this is an adult novel and I don’t hold back on the sex scenes.

The Kilted Cowboy is a different beast altogether.

Sir Alisder Sinclair, Laird of CarnMo'r hears the plaintive cry of a woman and races to the Three Bogs Mire to find American Robyn Colwin sinking fast in the bog. Set in the Ladder hills on the boundaries between the Grampians and the Cairngorms. CarnMo'r takes place in the aftermath of WWII. Part mystery, part love story, part Scottish lore. CarnMo'r is a bittersweet story fueled by principles of dedication to others, selfless love and strength of honour. All of that is bound together into a sweet tale of two wounded people finding healing and love.

The Kilted Cowboy

The Kilted Cowboy is a drama with bite, set in the modern era. When a rich Texan Rancher Daniel Delaque, comes to Scotland on a roots holiday he once promised his late wife, he meets and falls in love with a beautiful Scots widow Jean McGregor. Romance blossoms and she elopes with him back to the USA. After a whirlwind romance, they get married in Las Vegas in the Elvis chapel. There is only one fly in this particular ointment. Mike McGregor joined the British Army when he was 16, following in his father’s footsteps. At the age of 20, a few weeks before returning from his second tour in Afghanistan, Mike is wounded in a roadside ambush. He returns home to Scotland to discover the secret his family has been desperately trying to keep from him. After a few days at home and after receiving a medal from the Queen's hand for his bravery during the ambush, Mike finds himself back on an aircraft and heading for the wildlands of Texas and an unexpected adventure. With handsome cowboys, beautiful women, romance, Red Indians, Cattle rustling, rodeos, drug dealers and murder, the citizens of Helltown are in for a rude awakening when Mike McGregor rides into town. The picture-postcard cowboys from the Double D are in for a shock when the hard-talking hard-fighting Scottish Soldier walks into their bunkhouse.

Zombie  Ecosse

Zombie Ecosse was a hoot to write, and one that comes closer to the bone than any other novel I have ever written. It is set for the most part in my home county of Morayshire in the North East Highlands of Scotland. I did wonder if this was a wise thing to do, but while I was churning this novel over in my mind, I realised that I would really need to know the terrain of the place that the novel was set in. Of course, I could have set it anywhere, and even in a country that didn't exist, but the more I thought about it the more I realised that the setting around my own home would be the easiest to set the book in. not only that but the terrain itself would make an excellent setting for the novel, plus the fact that I wouldn't have to do any research for it. The towns, villages, bays, the coves, harbors, shops, car dealerships are all there, just screaming to be set into a novel. I really enjoyed writing this book, and am a fan of the genre, so why the hell not.

Zombie Ecosse 1&2

WARNING! This book has not been professionally proofread.

Jim Grant, a young master welder, is thrown into a zombie apocalypse with a bunch of school kids he rescues on the very first day. Their fight for survival against insurmountable odds takes place in and around his home town of Elgin in Scotland. He uses his unique talents and local knowledge to save them from the brink of death, time and time again. It isn't only the living dead that they have to contend with. Ravenous rats and brutal travelers also make their mark in this battle for survival.

In book two, the direct descendants of Jim Grant are forced to flee for their lives from the community that raised them. Fifteen-year-old Jim and Kyle have to travel over a hundred miles to reach another community. The wilderness is full of dangers. For a hundred and fifty years, the wildlife that escaped from zoos and wildlife parks have slowly taken over the land. A journey that takes them through the mountains of Scotland, wouldn't have shamed the plains of Africa two hundred years ago.
